Jeremiah Doughty: From Field To Plate

The real trophy is the one you put on your plate.
— Jeremiah Doughty

On this episode of The Storied Outdoors, we welcome Jeremiah Doughty, wild game chef, hunter, and founder of From Field to Plate. Jeremiah’s story is one of transformation. After developing a beef allergy, he turned entirely to wild game, not only to feed his family but also to embrace a greater calling: teaching others how to harvest, butcher, and cook their own food.

Through his immersive hunting schools, writing, and his podcast Tasting Wild, Jeremiah helps people discover that the true trophy isn’t antlers on the wall—it’s the meal shared around the table.

Growing up in Southern California, Jeremiah first fell in love with the outdoors during dove hunts and time spent afield. What began as a personal solution soon evolved into a mission: to demonstrate that wild game can be approachable, delicious, and deeply meaningful.

For Jeremiah, every harvest is more than food; it’s a sacred connection to the land, the animal, and ultimately, to God’s provision. His story is a reminder that hunting is about stewardship, gratitude, and respect, not just pursuit.

Jeremiah leads 4-day immersive hunting, butchering, and cooking schools in South Texas, designed for everyone from seasoned outdoorsmen to complete beginners. Participants leave with:

* Hands-on experience in field dressing, butchering, and cooking wild game

* Confidence in preparing game at home

* A deeper understanding of the field-to-table journey

These schools aren’t just about technique; they transform perspectives, inspiring participants to see wild game as both a source of nourishment and a part of their heritage.

Game & Grace: Devotional Reflections

We also dive into Jeremiah’s devotional, Game & Grace. In it, he draws meaningful connections between hunting and the reality of grace. Each devotion invites readers to slow down, whether in the woods, at the butcher’s table, or while sharing a meal—and recognize hunting as an act of gratitude, stewardship, and worship.

One of Jeremiah’s most memorable teachings is this:

“The real trophy is the one you put on your plate.”

This philosophy shapes everything he does, from butchering and cooking to teaching others. It’s not about chasing records but about honoring the harvest, feeding family and community, and leaving a legacy of gratitude.
